When combined with the Raspberry Pi, the Pi Desktop offers users all the functionalities they would expect from a standard desktop computer, including WiFi, Bluetooth, a real-time clock (RTC), a solid-state mSATA controller interface, an optional camera, and a power switch (the Raspberry Pi solid-state controller and camera are sold separately).
The result is a simple and elegant solution for Raspberry Pi enthusiasts who want to turn their Raspberry Pi into a sleek desktop computer in minutes. It eliminates the need for complex wiring harnesses or compromised peripheral selection. The Pi Desktop can be connected to a display via an HDMI interface.
The enhanced capabilities offered by the expanded SSD storage (up to 1 TB) make the system highly robust and reliable, and the ability to reboot the Raspberry Pi directly from the SSD provides users with a high-speed boot experience. The integrated power switch makes the Pi Desktop easy to operate. The smart and safe power controller means users don't have to remove the power adapter from the Raspberry Pi board; they simply turn it on or off, just like with a desktop or laptop computer.
The kit includes an add-in board with the mSATA interface, smart power controller and RTC; the elegant case; a heatsink; a USB adapter (micro type A); the RTC battery; and all the necessary spacers and screws.
The Pi Desktop was developed by Premier Farnell's electronics brand element14 and is another example of Premier Farnell's expertise in offering products from research to production. It is available exclusively from Farnell element14 and its distributors.
Premier Farnell is the largest Raspberry Pi manufacturer and has been working closely with the Raspberry Pi Foundation since the initial launch of the Raspberry Pi in 2012. Premier Farnell has also developed and released an ecosystem of accessories that support the maker, design, and education markets, enabling makers to develop their own dedicated projects using the Raspberry Pi.
