With the launch of HIPERFACE DSL®, SICK is responding to customer needs by offering a broader range of motor feedback systems. The interfaces supported by the servo controller are minimized, and SICK is thus creating an open standard in the market with the launch of what has previously been its proprietary interface.
HIPERFACE DSL® conforms to the RS485 standard and enables robust, interference-resistant data transmission between the drive controller and the motor in servo drive systems via two conductors, which are integrated directly into the motor cable, up to 100 m in length. Externally, electric drives with motor feedback systems and an integrated HIPERFACE DSL® interface are distinguished by their single motor connector. Increasingly, these devices feature hybrid cables that combine the rotary encoder and servo drive cables. Signals from other sensors are also transmitted and integrated into the digital motor feedback protocol. Special procedures and the use of pulse transformers ensure that the encoder signal is decoupled from any interference in the motor power cable.
HIPERFACE DSL® is compatible with the electronic nameplate functionality for automatic controller parameterization. It stores the serial number, reference and other data, which are used to autonomously configure the drive regulator with the motor parameters, as well as for maintenance operations.
