The central control unit, also known as the "core," features an integrated color touchscreen. The bright 2.8-inch IPS panel is easy to read from almost any viewing angle (170° viewing angle), even in direct sunlight. It not only displays measurement and process data but also allows for the input of control commands and operating parameters via its touch surface. The core has eight digital inputs, four analog inputs (4-20 mA and 0-10 V), and four relay outputs. It communicates via RS-485 or Ethernet and can also be accessed wirelessly via Wi-Fi. Up to 50 satellite terminals can be automatically connected to the central control unit.
Depending on the complexity of the input and output data, satellites with various screen sizes are available, ranging from a 1.5" screen with 240x240 pixels, barely smaller than a postage stamp, to a 10.1" panel with a resolution of 1280x800 pixels. The satellites automatically synchronize with the core in real time and can be individually configured. For example, one satellite might display service operating data, while another could be used to prepare the job and enter new parameters.
All touch and display functions can be freely programmed using the free Windows-based "PLC Designer" WYSIWYG tool. Numerous pre-designed elements allow for the creation of individual and even animated pages. The EA PLCC28 central control unit is designed for DIN rail mounting and is only 5 inches wide. Various housings are available for the satellite terminals for installation on other devices and for surface mounting.
