To ensure the reliability and longevity of these energy storage technologies, effective surge protection is essential. Lightning strikes or grid switching processes cause surges that can damage the sensitive electronic components of battery storage systems. Therefore, appropriate protection measures are crucial to prevent breakdowns and high repair costs. Carefully designed surge protection safeguards the investment in energy storage technology and contributes to the stability of the power grid.

The DEHNcharge T1 BATT 1500 FM is a DC surge protection device for battery storage systems up to 1500 V DC. The product complies with EN 61643-11 and is classified as a Type 1+2 surge arrester. The maximum operating voltage is 1500 V DC. The lightning impulse current per pole is 5 kA. This protection device can withstand a short-circuit current of up to 100 kAeff (ISCCR) when a maximum upstream fuse is used.

As a pre-wired Type 1 + Type 2 combined surge arrester for large DC battery storage systems, it features a proven, fault-tolerant Y-circuit. Its compact design, comprising only four modules, saves space. It integrates seamlessly into systems up to 1500 V DC.

The DEHNcharge offers a maximum protection level of ≤ 3 kV and can handle a prospective short-circuit current of up to 100 kA. These qualities ensure reliable operation even under very high short-circuit currents, significantly enhancing the safety and longevity of the battery storage system.

A green-red indicator on the inspection window provides a clear function and fault indication, allowing for a quick overview of the equipment's current operating status.
