Elmiger, who has 35 years of experience at maxon, will remain with the company as Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors, where he will assume strategic responsibilities. This change is part of a succession process that also includes changes in other management positions within the group and follows the announced transition for the Chairmanship of the Board in 2026.
Eugen Elmiger will step down as CEO after 15 years
Eugen Elmiger joined maxon in 1991 and was appointed CEO in 2011. At the time of his joining, the company, formerly known as Interelectric AG, had sales of approximately 50 million Swiss francs and 408 employees.
In 2025, the maxon Group achieved annual sales of nearly 600 million Swiss francs and currently employs over 3,000 people worldwide. Elmiger will continue in his role as CEO until the transition takes place in March 2027. He will then become Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors.
Andreas Richter will assume the executive directorship
The Board of Directors has appointed Andreas Richter as the next CEO of the maxon Group. Richter joined the company in 2020 and currently serves as Chief Operating Officer and Deputy CEO.
As COO, he has been responsible for the group's production centers, so his career at maxon has focused primarily on operations and managing the production structure. In the months leading up to the change in leadership, Richter and Elmiger will oversee the transition process until the transfer of executive responsibilities.
The transition will continue the changes initiated in 2026
The CEO replacement is part of a broader generational transition within the maxon Group's management and governance bodies. A further change, related to the Chairmanship of the Board of Directors, was announced in June 2026.
The company's main shareholder, Karl-Walter Braun, will hand over this responsibility to his daughter, Bianca Braun. The change in executive leadership, planned for March 2027, constitutes the next phase of this reorganization.
Stefan Müller will be Deputy CEO
The succession plan also includes changes in other management positions. Stefan Müller, maxon's current Chief Technology Officer (CTO), will add the role of Deputy CEO to his responsibilities.
Müller will thus retain his functions related to technological management and will additionally assume the position of second in command within the group's executive structure.
Daniel von Wyl will assume the role of COO
Andreas Richter's promotion to CEO will leave his current position as Chief Operating Officer vacant. The role will be filled by Daniel von Wyl, currently Managing Director of maxon motor AG's Sachseln plant.
As the new COO, von Wyl will be responsible for the maxon Group's production centers, taking over from Richter in these roles.
Dominik Stockmann will manage the Sachseln plant
The appointment of Daniel von Wyl as COO will, in turn, lead to a change in management at the Sachseln plant. Dominik Stockmann, currently Head of Development at this facility, will be appointed Managing Director. Stockmann will thus replace von Wyl and assume management of one of the group's production facilities.
New management structure effective from March 2027
Once the transition is complete, Andreas Richter will assume the role of CEO, while Stefan Müller will combine his responsibilities as CTO with those of Deputy CEO. Daniel von Wyl will become COO and assume responsibility for the production plants, while Dominik Stockmann will take over as head of the Sachseln plant.
Eugen Elmiger will step down from operational management after 15 years as CEO and will continue to be involved with the company from the Board of Directors. The changes will take effect in March 2027, culminating a transition process that maxon will maintain during the months leading up to the handover.
