Founded with the goal of freeing wireless and power systems from the limitations of silicon, Wolfspeed enters the market as a well-established company with business growth and a focused team, a profitable business and more than 28 years of extensive experience in semiconductor technology.
The new name combines key elements of Cree's culture and expertise, enabling the RF and Power Division to build new brand value while operating as a separate business. As a Cree company, Wolfspeed will leverage Cree's global presence, scale, and experience to ensure a seamless transition for customers.
“Today, Wolfspeed is giving our customers and our team a first look at our new name, brand identity, and corporate purpose ahead of our initial public offering, which we plan to execute during fiscal year 2016,” said Frank Plastina, Executive Vice President at Wolfspeed. “We are building something new on the strong foundation that is Cree,” Plastina added, “and we want to share our vision, plan, and enthusiasm with all our shareholders as we move toward the transition.”.
