Farnell became part of Avnet following the acquisition of its parent company, Premier Farnell, in 2016. Brands within the broader Avnet ecosystem are now coming together to present a single, unified proposition for both customers and suppliers. Through several strategic acquisitions, Avnet has enhanced its capabilities to help product creators, large and small, manage the entire product lifecycle—from concept to global distribution—more successfully than ever before. Avnet now has the ability to support all phases of the product lifecycle and is the first distributor to offer truly comprehensive, in-house solutions that take an idea from prototype to mass production.

Customers no longer need to identify, evaluate, and onboard a new partner at any stage of their product development journey. By working together with Farnell and Avnet, they can have a single partner for their entire product development cycle. This saves customers time and money and supports them through the complex phases of product development.

Farnell was initially founded in 1939 as AC Farnell Limited and in 1996 merged with Newark Electronics in the United States to become Premier Farnell. The combined company was one of the first distribution companies to offer electronic purchasing capabilities to its customers and the first to launch an online community for engineers, element14, which now brings together more than 600,000 like-minded members to create new and exciting electronic designs and then share the process so other members can learn from it. Farnell became Farnell element14 in 2008 and became part of Avnet in 2016 following the acquisition of its parent company, Premier Farnell.

From its beginnings in the 1930s, AC Farnell Limited had the simple mission of helping customers find the products they needed when they needed them. Today, it remains true to that mission, with hundreds of thousands of customers relying on the company to source the products they need each year.

As we integrate our businesses for the benefit of customers, Newark element14 in North America will also change its name to Newark, An Avnet Company.
