These types of facilities, dedicated to cancer therapies using protons, cannot afford power outages, as a failure in supply would compromise both the effectiveness of the treatments and the safety of the patients. Furthermore, international regulations for advanced radiotherapy require backup systems to ensure operability under any circumstances.

To address these needs, the Genesal Energy engineering team developed a GEN550YI model generator set with 550kVA of power, installed in a soundproof enclosure that ensures quiet and reliable operation. The system activates automatically in the event of any voltage drop, keeping both the facilities and sensitive medical equipment running.

One of the project's main requirements was to ensure extended autonomy. To achieve this, two fuel tanks were incorporated: an integrated 800-liter tank and an external, double-walled polyethylene tank of 2,000 liters. Both operate in coordination via an automatic transfer system equipped with level sensors, a booster pump, a solenoid valve, and a filter, ensuring a continuous and reliable fuel supply.

The project also included a redundant starting system, with two batteries mounted in parallel, ensuring the generator's operability at all times. Additionally, a specific exhaust system was designed to reduce noise emissions and comply with current noise regulations.

The solution was completed with the integration of a monoblock motor-alternator system with flexible coupling, which increases reliability and reduces vibrations. Thanks to this custom design, the proton therapy center now has a reliable, quiet, and long-lasting emergency power supply, capable of protecting high-value equipment and ensuring the continuity of advanced medical treatments.
