Demand for large-scale energy storage continues to grow worldwide as electricity grids adapt to higher levels of renewable generation. Storage systems can provide essential balancing capacity, helping to manage fluctuations in renewable energy production while simultaneously strengthening grid stability and resilience.
Its applications are also expanding into the commercial, industrial and infrastructure sectors, including self-consumption of renewable energy, reducing peak demand, energy management and maintaining the resilience of the electricity supply during service interruptions or extreme weather events.
Thanks to its decades of experience in advanced battery technology, GS Yuasa develops and manufactures in Japan the main components of its stationary energy storage systems, including lithium-ion battery cells and sophisticated control systems.
The company's technology combines high-quality manufacturing with proprietary capabilities to predict battery degradation, contributing to safe, reliable, and sustainable long-term operation of systems.
Mike Taylor, Product Manager at GS Yuasa Battery Europe Ltd, commented: “Energy storage is becoming an increasingly important element in the transition to a more flexible and resilient energy system. As renewable generation continues to grow in Europe and the rest of the world, having the necessary capacity to store energy efficiently and manage its use intelligently will be critical.”.
“This new investment demonstrates GS Yuasa’s long-term commitment to developing the battery technologies and manufacturing capabilities needed to drive this transition. The combination of our expertise in lithium-ion technology, battery management, and degradation prediction provides us with a solid foundation to deliver safe, reliable, and sustainable energy storage solutions.”
The investment is part of GS Yuasa Corporation's plan to ensure a stable supply of storage batteries, approved by Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry in February 2026.
For GS Yuasa Battery Europe Ltd, this project demonstrates once again the Group's continued investment in technologies that support the global transition towards electricity systems with lower carbon emissions and an increasing presence of renewable energy.
As renewable energy generation continues to grow in Europe, efficient energy storage will play an increasingly important role in balancing electricity supply and demand, strengthening grid resilience, and enabling more efficient use of renewable energy.
