Working in partnership with the Board of Trustees, Stephen will help ensure that the IEEE is universally recognized as the voice of the international technical community and a critical contributor to the development and implementation of emerging and transformative technologies.”

Most recently, Mr. Welby served as U.S. Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering. In his role as Director of Technology for the U.S. Department of Defense, he led one of the world's largest organizations dedicated to research, development, and engineering. His technical expertise includes the development of cutting-edge aerospace systems, robotics, machine learning, high-performance software, and sensor systems.
The IEEE and its members promote innovation within the international community to create a better future through its more than 423,000 members in over 160 countries, as well as through its widely cited publications, conferences, and professional and educational activities. The IEEE is recognized worldwide in the fields of engineering, computer science, and technology.
