In addition to the new drone factory, planned for the Villadangos del Páramo Industrial Park (León) and expected to create 200 new jobs, Indra plans to expand its engineering capabilities in the region by hiring another 150 engineers. With an investment of nearly €12 million, Indra will concentrate its production capabilities for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) at the new facility. This includes the TARSIS tactical system and its weapon system based on the VALERO multi-purpose aerial vehicle, as well as the loitering munitions produced by the new company created with EDGE to manufacture defense systems under European Defense Programs. The factory will feature dedicated assembly lines for each type of drone.

The goal is to begin manufacturing and integrating Class 1 UAS weighing less than 150 kg, for both defense and civilian applications, as well as serial production of drones with ammunition starting in 2027. Indra will collaborate with León Airport and the Army's Aerial Systems Acquisition Group (GROSA) to establish a testing and validation center for the new systems, including both drones and anti-drone systems.

With this initiative, Indra continues to advance its industrial response to the Special Modernization Programs (PEM) and strengthens its Indra Weapons & Ammunition division, which focuses on the development of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), anti-drone systems, precision guidance systems, and directed energy systems. It also contributes to ensuring national technological sovereignty in the field of drones and positions León and its local industry for international opportunities, with Europe, which identifies UAS as a strategic solution, as one of the main markets.

To strengthen its position in this area, Indra Group acquired Aertec Defence & Aerial Systems in 2025, incorporating its TARSIS tactical systems family into Indra's offering, and has recently acquired Wake Engineering's unmanned aerial systems (UAS) technology.
