Since the release of the PCIe 1.0 specification in 2003, each subsequent generation has doubled the bandwidth of the previous generation. Currently, the PCIe 4.0 specification at 16 Gbps/lane is supported by the PCI-SIG conformance testing program.
The PCI Express architecture is increasing the speed of internal interfaces in high-speed PCs and storage, and is becoming a key interface for communications equipment and servers that require ever-increasing bandwidth. It is expected to see rapid deployment in markets such as IoT, AI, and automotive, which utilize emerging technologies.
PCI-SIG conducts quarterly compliance workshops to certify PCIe devices. With the increasing demand for PCIe equipment and to meet the growing number of devices under test (DUTs), PCI-SIG has established a new permanent testing environment, utilizing equipment from qualified vendors, including the Anritsu Signal Quality Analyzer-R MP1900A.
"With its reproducibility and ease of use in compliance testing, the MP1900A is a valuable testing instrument for PCIe compliance workshops, offering enhanced capacity and contributing to the widespread adoption of the PCI Express standard," said PCI-SIG President Al Yanes. "We look forward to Anritsu's future contributions to PCI Express technology.".
Anritsu's General Manager of the Services Infrastructure Solutions Division, Hiroyuki Takahashi, commented, "In addition to supporting the next-generation PCIe 5.0 standard, Anritsu's MP1900A series will also support the planned PCIe 6.0 specifications. With this, Anritsu is helping to facilitate the adoption of PCI Express and contributing to the development of the technology."
Signal Quality Analyzer
-R MP1900A Schematic: The Signal Quality Analyzer-R MP1900A is an industry-leading multi-channel BERT. It integrates a high-quality pulse pattern generator (PPG) that produces a residual jitter of 115 fs rms, a high-sensitivity input error detector (ED) that creates an eye height of 15 mV (typical), and a high-precision jitter generation source (SJ, RJ, SSC, BUJ). CM-I/DM-I functions are also part of the MP1900A's mainframe. With a link formation function and support for Link Training Status State Machine (LTSSM) analysis, it has multiple applications, including compliance testing, margin testing, and troubleshooting.
The MP1900A offers all-in-one support from PCI Express 1.0 (2.5 Gbit/s) to PCIe 5.0 (32 Gbit/s) with future upgrades for PCI Express 6.0 (64 Gbit/s). By offering all-in-one support, the MP1900A allows customers to reduce testing costs and simplify upgrades. Furthermore, the MP1900A is compatible with oscilloscopes from all three major manufacturers to automate complex Rx testing procedures up to PCI 5.0, with support for the future PCIe 6.0 specification.
