Members of the element14 and Hackster.io communities are invited to design the most creative solution using ON Semiconductor's RSL10 sensor development kit (RSL10-SENSE-GEVK). Examples of projects could include solutions for monitoring challenges as diverse as workers in potentially hazardous environments or elderly people at risk of falls, fragile packages in transport facilities, fruits and vegetables in processing areas, organ transplant transport, or even pets.
The ON Semiconductor RSL10 Sensor Development Kit is a compact and comprehensive platform for electronics designers to easily develop IoT applications with leading sensing technology and the industry's lowest-power Bluetooth SoC. The development kit includes a full range of environmental and inertial sensors (a three-axis accelerometer, a three-axis gyroscope, and a low-power smart hub for motion detection), a geomagnetic sensor, and an ambient light sensor. Designers can use the sensors included on the board or add their own sensors and actuators, which can be controlled via the RSL10 Sense and Control app.
“This new design competition really encourages members of the element14 and Hackster.io communities to rethink solutions that can have a real impact on the world around them,” said Dianne Kibbey, Global Head of Community and Social Media at element14. “ON Semiconductor’s cutting-edge development kit gives engineers the flexibility to more easily create low-power, connected IoT devices that generate valuable and beneficial insights for both individuals and businesses.”.
Designers have until October 11th to submit their proposals online to participate in "ThinkON". On October 18th, up to 50 contestants will be selected to receive the RSL10 development kit from ON Semiconductor to build their designs. Contestants will have approximately 11 weeks to build their projects and must publish at least one blog post documenting their progress and share their design with the online communities element14 and Hackster.io.
A jury from the element14 community will evaluate the projects based on their originality, innovation, and technical merit. Projects must be ready by January 1st, and the winners will be announced and prizes shipped on February 1st. The overall winning project will receive a Lulzbot Mini 2 desktop 3D printer. In addition, prizes will be awarded for the best project in each of the following three categories: the winner in wearables or health will receive an HTC VIVE Pro virtual reality system, and the best projects in security or asset monitoring and home automation will receive an Apple iPad Pro (12.9-inch).
