“This year’s SMT exhibition was extremely successful, with a high proportion of visitors showing interest in investing in next-generation assembly capabilities,” commented Ichiro Arimoto, Managing Director of Yamaha Motor Europe IM Business. “We successfully connected with our key accounts and new potential customers, and demonstrated how innovations like our new YSM40R assembly machine and advanced software tools can help them grow their businesses.”.
The compact, 1-meter-wide footprint of the Yamaha YSM40R 200,000 cph, 4-beam, 4-head mounting machine captured the imagination. Designed for revolutionary productivity, the YSM40R features high-speed motion control algorithms, the new RS placement head, nozzle self-diagnostics and self-restoration to minimize downtime, and a new high-speed side-view camera for pre- and post-assembly component inspection. The award-winning machine also boasts a new high-rigidity base frame that improves placement accuracy and assembly reliability.
Along with the YSM40R, Yamaha's lineup of mounting machines, including the high-efficiency modular YSM20, attracted the attention of various types of manufacturers. The YSM20 combines speed, flexibility, and efficiency with its intelligent component shape recognition, precision compensation, Yamaha's "1-head solution," and special design features for quick changeovers. The widebody YSM20W offers the same performance and reliability on a platform large enough to handle high-value jobs beyond normal board size limitations, such as LED lighting, medical image reproduction, and cloud server arrays.
All YS assembly machines, including the YSM40R and YSM20/YSM20W, are ready for Yamaha's advanced Auto Loading (AL) feeders, which increase efficiency in high-volume production as well as small-batch work where components are supplied on short strips. The new strip is inserted without removing the feeder, and the built-in auto-calibration of the print head maintains picking accuracy.
Many visitors came to see Yamaha's solutions for connecting factory assets, designed to help coordinate activities, maximize equipment utilization and uptime, and improve product quality and bottom-line performance. These assets include QA Option software, which analyzes inspection data in real time to help optimize equipment, and Mobile Judgment, which automatically alerts supervisors if process attention is needed. In addition, Yamaha machines seamlessly connect with manufacturers' component storage towers to manage just-in-time (JIT) replenishment, and powerful optional tools are available for configuration, monitoring, and traceability. Furthermore, iProDB leverages Yamaha's unique full-line solution to perform historical analysis of machine data and drive further process optimization and design improvements for increased quality and productivity.
Visitors were also introduced to the latest members of Yamaha's YSi-V family, which make the power of automated optical in-line inspection (AOI) even more accessible to a wider range of assemblers. A selection of 5-megapixel and 12-megapixel machines offers high-precision 3D AOI for various budget scales, with the added benefit of laser component height and coplanarity control, as well as additional features in the high-speed TypeHS variants for even greater throughput.
Yamaha's complete solution encompasses high-performance printers, such as the YCP-10, which has integrated productivity features that have become a key draw for this year's Nuremberg audience. These include Yamaha's original swing-single-squeegee variable-angle printhead and graphical stencil/plate alignment, automatic stencil cleaning, and optional on-printer inspection and weld-roll measurement.
Yamaha's comprehensive portfolio offers a wide range of printers, dispensers, assemblers, irregular-shape assemblers, 3D AOI systems, X-ray inspection systems, advanced robotic assemblers, and software to assist with setup, navigation, monitoring, and traceability. Users can also take advantage of productivity options such as self-calibrating, self-loading feeders and stacker feeders, specialized software tools, and mobile applications.
