It can be used in applications such as control panels, console controllers, mobile phones, tablets, LTE and 3G modems, USB drives, etc., where indicator LEDs can enhance the user interface, and generally in applications where interesting signaling effects are desired at low power consumption.
The device allows brightness adjustment with a 12-bit PWM and features audio synchronization so that the brightness and color of the LEDs change according to the audio content.
The power consumed to control the indicator LEDs with an AS3668 is much less than what we would need if we used a processor and simple transistors, because this conventional design requires activating the processor every time an LED needs to be turned on, and this ends up drastically reducing battery life.
The AS3668 features a highly efficient charge pump with soft start and short-circuit and overcurrent protection. It consumes only 0.2 µA in standby mode, offers battery voltage monitoring with fail-safe mode, and allows for the selection of various lighting patterns. The processor interface is I2C, requiring only a few commands to program the AS3668.
This driver is available in a 12-pin WL-CSP package measuring 1.26x1.68mm.
