Thanks to their lower maintenance requirements, lithium-ion batteries (also known as Li-ion or LIB) are a natural choice for edge deployments where IT support is limited. Compared to valve-regulated lead-acid (VRLA) batteries, lithium-ion batteries have up to three times the lifespan, improving the total cost of ownership (TCO). They also perform more efficiently at higher temperatures, are smaller, lighter, and offer greater runtime than the VRLA batteries used in UPS systems of this power. The Vertiv Edge UPS family with lithium-ion batteries provides up to 10 minutes of runtime at full load, compared to approximately 4–5 minutes for a standard UPS with VRLA batteries.

“As digitalization increases, many applications are moving to the network edge and require reliable power protection,” said Karsten Winther, Vertiv’s vice president of sales for EMEA. “Lithium-ion battery UPS systems offer cost and operational advantages, as well as reducing the need for on-site. Ultimately, this translates into greater stability and savings for remote, critical deployments, and a wider range of options for our customers.”

The Vertiv Edge UPS with lithium-ion batteries is ideal for edge computing and applications in healthcare, banking, education, retail, and government. It comes with a standard five-year warranty for the electronics and battery. The system can be integrated with the Vertiv™ VR rack for a standardized IT infrastructure solution that can be easily deployed in various remote locations.

The Vertiv™ Edge UPS family with lithium-ion batteries is compatible with Vertiv™ Power Insight, available as a free download from the Vertiv website. Vertiv Power Insight allows users to easily monitor and manage up to 100 rack power distribution units (rPDUs) and UPS systems, with shutdown protection for individual and virtual servers, providing greater visibility and improved management of multiple remote locations. The latest version of Vertiv Power Insight includes the VMware vCenter plugin to streamline power management and availability.
