This family is characterized by typical sleep current values of 30 nA at 25°C and a typical operating current of 150 µA/MHz at 1.8V. To optimize low-cost applications, these products include flexible peripherals such as MSSP (Master Synchronous Serial Port), which allows designers to configure an I2C™ or SPI (Serial Peripheral Interface) interface, as well as ECCP (Enhanced Capture/Compare/PWM), which allows designers to customize multiple PWM and input capture configurations. The “KL” product family is available in 14-, 20-, and 28-pin packages.
Manufacturers are currently under intense pressure to cut costs, even for the most sophisticated and low-power products. Thanks to their feature set in a low-pin package, the PIC24 “KL” microcontrollers provide an ideal 16-bit solution for low-cost applications with minimal I/O and memory requirements, such as electronic toys, shavers, and portable blood pressure monitors. These microcontrollers deliver up to 16 MIPS with a flexible set of peripherals, enabling designers to differentiate their products in the market while maintaining low costs.
The development of PIC24F “KL” microcontrollers is supported by a USB-powered Microstick for the 3V K-series PIC24F (DM240013-1), which is now available. This easy-to-use development platform provides everything designers need to get started with PIC24F “KL” microcontrollers, including an on-board debugger/programmer and a DUT (Device-Under-Test) socket for simplified device swapping. About the size of a credit card, it is extremely portable and can be attached to a breadboard. This Microstick is supplied with a USB cable, breadboard terminals, and the PIC24F16KL402 and PIC24F16KA102 microcontrollers. It is supported by Microchip's MPLAB® integrated development environment (IDE) and is compatible with all 3V K-series PIC24F microcontrollers in 28-pin SPDIP packages.
The PIC24F16KL402 microcontrollers are supplied in 14, 20, and 28-pin PDIP, SOIC, SPDIP, SSOP, TSSOP, and QFN packages with sizes starting from 5 mm x 5 mm.
