RenesaselectronicsDigital power control applications require a unique balance of high performance and high resolution while meeting stringent energy consumption and cost criteria. Previously, to serve these digital power applications, engineers have used dedicated DSPs or application-specific devices that impacted the power/performance balance, but these are often more complex and expensive to design. Furthermore, these devices offer less flexibility, a limited product range, and require specialized tools and software compared to a general-purpose MCU.

The combination of advanced analog processing power, high-resolution capabilities, and integrated timing functions makes the new RX62G MCU ideal for implementing high-precision digital control for inverters or converters, power management, and digital power supplies, such as general-purpose power systems and power servers. By enabling complex algorithms and high-precision control at an affordable price, the RX62G series allows for greater efficiency in these types of power control applications, helping to reduce pollution.

The new MCUs expand upon the advanced analog and control functions of the RX62T and RX63T, delivering more efficient power consumption and performance. They are also pin-compatible with the RX62T series and feature software compatible with other members of the RX600 family, providing greater scalability options for embedded system designers working with evolving design requirements or across multiple applications.

The new MCUs operate at 100MHz and deliver a constant 1.65DMips/MHz, providing maximum energy efficiency at lower speeds and exceptional performance at higher speeds. The integrated DSP instruction set and FPU enable efficient implementation of complex algorithms and control loops. The single-precision FPU offloads the RX CPU and simplifies decimal point calculations, improving overall processing performance and streamlining firmware development. With integrated flash memory operating at CPU speed with no wait state, the RX62G delivers real-time performance of 165DMips in a purely deterministic manner.

The new series also features four high-resolution timers, capable of generating PWM signals with a resolution of 312.5 ps, necessary for controlling power bridges to deliver maximum efficiency and reduced power losses. Similar to the RX62T MCUs, the RX62G devices feature two 12-bit A/D converters and one 10-bit A/D converter, capable of capturing analog input values from up to 20 channels with a minimum conversion time of 1 ms. Each A/D converter can be triggered by timers and can sample three phases in parallel. The RX62G MCUs also integrate a new 16-bit general-purpose pulse-width modulation (GPT) timer and specialized multifunction MTU3 units with pulse timers for motor control. With this combination, a single RX62G MCU can control up to three three-phase motors simultaneously.
