The RH850 family is the latest generation of products developed following the merger of Renesas Technology and NEC Electronics in April 2010.
The Renesas RH850/X1 incorporates all the major trends in the evolving automotive market across all vehicle segments. These include functional safety requirements up to ASIL D level, the integration of safety features, and, especially, low energy consumption.
The RH850 family covers performance classes from 64 MHz to 320 MHz for single-core performance. Multi-core systems will achieve even higher overall performance. Integrated flash memory ranges from 256 KB to 8 MB, while additional flash data blocks, emulating EEPROM functionality, are also included, offering write/erase endurance values with write/erase cycles exceeding 125,000, for a minimum data retention period of 20 years.
The launch will involve multiple product lines for customized applications, each equipped with the RH850 32-bit core architecture. The series will feature single-core, dual-core, block-pass, and multi-core architectures, meeting virtually all the performance and safety requirements of 32-bit MCUs across various automotive segments. Combined with scalable blocks featuring IP functionality, memory, and pin counters, Renesas' series concept allows customers to select the product best suited to their needs, confident that they have the necessary scalability flexibility without requiring changes to their application software.
To ensure software compatibility for customers, all series are based on the same development platform concept, reusing the same IP across the entire RH850/X1 generation. An integrated development environment (IDE) will support all products in the RH850 family, enabling seamless migration from legacy automotive products and further reducing overall development investment.
