The new family is compatible with the new CAN FD (Flexible Data-rate) protocol for communication speeds up to 5 Mbit/s and with the new CAN PN (Partial Networking) standard to improve energy efficiency in vehicles. The devices fully comply with ISO 118980-2/5/6, 11898-2:2016, and SAE J2962-2 standards. The ATA6562, ATA6563, ATA6564, ATA6565, and ATA6566 models constitute the first family of CAN/CAN FD transceivers on the market with Grade 0 automotive approval for ambient temperatures from -40°C to 150°C.
Microchip also supplies a CAN Partial Networking transceiver that incorporates a supervisor with a window. The devices are approved by major car manufacturers for use without the external common-mode choke (CMC) coils required by most CAN transceivers.
All members of the family are equipped with CAN bus activation capabilities and a dual activation system compliant with ISO 11898-2:2016. A modern vehicle contains more than 70 Electronic Control Units (ECUs) with a CAN interface. This feature prevents unwanted ignition sequences, resulting in significant energy savings and reduced emissions.
The ATA65xx family is supported by the ATA656x-EK development kit, the ATAB6570A development kit, and the ATA6563 Click board, which are already available.
Microchip supplies this new family in SO 8/14 and DFN8/14 packages with wettable flanks and prepared for automatic optical inspection of solder joints.
These products from the ATA65xx family are now available:
• ATA6562/63/64/66 in SO8 or DFN8 packages with wettable edges
• ATA6565 in DFN14 packages with wettable edges
• ATA6570 in SO14 packages
