High-brightness lens LED chips in 1608 (0603) format
ROHM has recently announced the availability of high brightness optics LED chips in 1608 (0603) format.
The CSL0901 series LEDs provide a cost-effective, energy-efficient, and long-lasting solution for the automotive, industrial, appliance, and consumer electronics markets, showcasing their advantages particularly when used as speedometer indicators. Based on ROHM's advanced miniaturization technology, these new devices boast a compact form factor of 1.6 x 0.8 mm while delivering a typical light intensity of up to 405 mcd at 605 nm / 20 mA. They emit red, amber, yellow, yellow-green, pure green, and blue light.
Today, a growing number of compact applications and devices for household appliances, consumer electronics, and especially automotive applications require high-precision brightness. However, until now, it has been difficult to offer high-precision brightness in a small form factor. With conventional lens-type LEDs in PLCCs or LED chips in 1608/0603 format, it was not possible to meet these requirements. Based on an improved mounting design, the new CSL0901 overcomes the limitations that—until now—made it difficult to avoid inaccurate light emission on the surface, or light leakage, between the socket and the side. The new series offers a smaller socket and allows for a balanced distance between the lens and the PCB, resulting in a more precise, intense, and consistent light emission zone due to the smaller packages. Furthermore, this sophisticated design facilitates the implementation of lighting applications. The LEDs will also be AEC-Q101 qualified, making them suitable for lighting applications that demand higher reliability, such as automotive systems.
