It has the same 5-megapixel sensor as its predecessor, but without the infrared filter, making it the perfect tool for capturing images in the dark.
The new Pi NoIR is ideal for applications requiring night vision (nighttime wildlife photography for security and monitoring), hyperspectral imaging, astronomy, and paranormal investigation. Its sensor can capture still images with a resolution of 2592 x 1944, as well as record high-definition video up to 1080p at 30 frames per second, allowing users of Raspberry Pi A and B models to create video applications. It measures 20 x 25 x 9 mm and connects to the Raspberry Pi via the free CSI pins, using the I²C control interface.
To get started with Pi NoIR, users will need a Raspberry Pi board, an SD card with the operating system installed, and a battery or power supply. Optional accessories include an infrared lamp, a camera mount, and various cables for HDMI, VGA, and Ethernet connections. All Raspberry Pi products and accessories are available from RS.
