The ACPL-K4xT optocouplers are part of Avago's R2 Coupler™ family, featuring reinforced insulation for reliable signal isolation—essential for onboard chargers for grid-connected electric vehicles and other high-temperature industrial and automotive applications. Onboard chargers receive a high-voltage, high-current supply for fast charging, requiring robust isolation from transient spikes of up to 8kV. The optocouplers' reinforced insulation meets these stringent requirements, providing safe isolation of electrical signals across a wide operating temperature range (-40°C to +125°C). Furthermore, the devices' small surface-mount (SO-8) packages comply with the 8mm creepage and air clearance requirements mandated by high-voltage safety standards.
The low power consumption of the ACPL-K4xT helps prevent battery management systems from draining vehicle batteries. The devices have a standby current and therefore consume no power when disconnected. Furthermore, the power consumption of both their LEDs and detector IC can be minimized to 1.5mA/channel for low-speed switching operations.
The ACPL-K4xT optocouplers comply with multiple safety standards, including UL 1577 at 5kVRMS/1 minute, IEC 60747-5-5 with a transient peak rating of 8kV for a working voltage up to 1140V, EN/DIN 60747-5-2, and CSA. The ACPL-K43T (single-channel) and ACPL-K44T (dual-channel) devices operate at 1 MBd, while the ACPL-K49T (single-channel) operates at 20 kBd.
