Embedded controllers play a crucial role in managing power sequencing, alerts, and energy regulation within the system. Thanks to this application, the MEC1723 goes a step further, also managing critical firmware operations.
• Secure firmware authentication: The firmware code is digitally signed and authenticated by NVIDIA, which helps maintain platform integrity.
• Root of trust for system boot: cryptographic verification of the firmware using ECC-P384 (Elliptic Curve Cryptography) public key technology. This establishes the root of trust for the entire laptop, which is essential because the EC (Elliptic Curve) is the first device powered on and authorizes the secure boot of the system.
• Advanced power management: manages battery charging, alerts, and system power state transitions to optimize energy efficiency.
• System control: monitors key scanning and keyboard operation to increase the reliability of user-entered information.
• New host interface support: Implements unique packet command format processing for the NVIDIA DGX interface that goes beyond traditional byte-level data transfers.
• Value-added integration: incorporates interfaces for EMI (electromagnetic interference) and SRAM (Static Random-Access Memory) in order to improve the overall system performance.
“The collaboration between Microchip and NVIDIA facilitates the availability of secure, customized firmware solutions that meet the complex needs of modern computing platforms,” said Nuri Dagdeviren, corporate vice president of the Secure Computing Group at Microchip Technology. “Our MEC1723 firmware is customized to deliver reliable operation and advanced functionality to our NVIDIA DGX architecture to meet evolving customer computing requirements.”.
