Compact design and high performance: The VEMD8083 comes in a low-profile 3.2 mm × 2.0 mm × 0.6 mm SMD package, making it ideal for integration into miniaturized devices such as smart rings, monitoring wristbands, or wearable medical sensors. Despite its small size, the photodiode achieves a reverse light current of up to 16 µA at 940 nm, enabling accurate detection even under weak signal conditions.
Its 30 ns rise and fall times, combined with a low capacitance of 50 pF, facilitate high sampling rates, a key requirement in photoplethysmography (PPG) and cardiovascular monitoring applications. Furthermore, its medium sensitivity angle of ±60° ensures efficient radiation capture in various design configurations.
Specifications of the new photodiode
The photodiode has a sensitive area of 2.8 mm² and dimensions of 3.2 × 2.0 × 0.6 mm. Typical reverse currents are 11 µA at 525 nm, 14 µA at 660 nm, and 16 µA at 940 nm, with a spectral range of 350 to 1100 nm. The diode capacitance is 50 pF, and rise and fall times are 30 ns. It complies with RoHS and Vishay Green halogen-free standards and has a humidity sensitivity level of MSL 3, equivalent to a floor life of 168 hours.

The VEMD8083 is designed for monitoring heart rate and oxygen saturation (SpO₂), as well as for diagnostic systems requiring precise detection of blood flow variations.
