“The QUASAR software is based on a modern, field-oriented, closed-loop control system,” explains Peter Baumann, Managing Director of SKAItek and CEO of drivetek. It ensures continuous control of the electric machine up to the strong-field weakening range for the implementation of efficient and dynamic traction units and generator solutions. QUASAR receives input from a central unit via the CAN bus and precisely converts it into speed or torque.
The software is designed for brushless DC control, as well as for surface-mounted AC induction and permanent magnet synchronous motors. As standard, the motor control software also offers a powerful set of additional control functions, such as deep battery discharge protection and overvoltage protection for DC power recovery. Machine parameterization and configuration by the customer are easily performed using the optional Q-Control software package. This Windows-based PC application allows for system visualization and configuration via a CAN interface.
“The SKAI2 product platform is ideally suited for automotive applications due to its use of pressure contact technology,” says Roland Mühlemann, Managing Director of SKAItek and Business Development Manager at Semikron. Semikron’s more than two decades of experience in battery-powered vehicles have been integrated into the SKAI product family. The benefit for users of this long-term expertise is the availability of the SKAI platform as a standard solution.
