The BLR test allows for the evaluation of the robustness and reliability of semiconductor packages. This rigorous testing procedure is especially relevant in automotive applications, where safety and reliability are paramount. Accreditation is particularly important as the industry moves towards more electric and connected vehicles, increasing the complexity of onboard electronic systems.
“BLR verification is a significant milestone,” says Guido Söhrn, Product Manager for Discrete Bipolar Power Devices at Nexperia. “The CFP15B represents the latest generation of ultra-thin, thermally enhanced surface-mount devices. Its versatility and reliability make it the perfect choice for automotive components such as engine control units, transmission control units, and many other safety applications like braking.”
BLR verification confirmed that the CFP15B exceeded twice the expected reliability performance level according to the AEC-Q101 standard. Temperature-based cycle testing, which combines temperature cycle and intermittent operating life testing, enabled the device to achieve a rating of 2,600 cycles. "The automotive sector presents some challenging applications for surface-mount devices, and the CFP15B proved its effectiveness under the most demanding conditions," added Guido Söhrn.
The CFP15B is manufactured using the highest quality materials. It features zero delamination in the areas surrounding the wires, die, and clip, eliminating moisture ingress and increasing reliability.
The CFP15B's thermal resistance is reduced thanks to a solid copper clip. This optimizes heat transfer to the printed circuit board, enabling compact board designs. The device is up to 60% smaller than DPAK and SMx packages without compromising thermal performance. Its reduced size offers significant space savings and, therefore, increased design flexibility.
The device's package is used by various power diode technologies, such as Schottky or recovery rectifiers from Nexperia, but can also be expanded to include silicon germanium power diodes or bipolar transistors. It offers a wide range of products, covering single/dual configurations and current ratings from 4-20 A, simplifying board design.
