Leveraging Melexis' unique Triaxis® Hall technology, the MLX90381 is easy to use for rotor position detection. The MLX90381 can be used for absolute rotary position detection and, thanks to its low latency and fast response, measures rotational speeds exceeding 50,000 rpm.

The pico-resolver improves low-speed accuracy and acoustic performance, and supports stall detection. It can be used with DC, brushless DC, and permanent magnet synchronous (PMSM) motors in applications such as electric valves and e-bike motors. It is also a good choice for automotive safety systems, as it complies with AEC-Q100 and ISO 26262 (ASIL B SEooC) standards.

The MLX90381 integrates seamlessly with Melexis' family of intelligent embedded LIN controllers. Among them is the MLX81330/32 (up to 10 W) for direct drive of louvers, valves, and single-coil fans and pumps. It also works with the MLX81340/44/46 predrivers (up to 2000 W) which are incorporated into power blowers, engine cooling fans, pumps, power windows, seat regulators, and sunroofs.

Thanks to its selectable magnetic field axes (X/Y - X/Z - Z/Y), the MLX90381 can control on-axis position sensing as well as off-axis through-axis sensing. The sensitivity and filter bandwidth of each axis can be programmed directly via the device's I2C interface. A dedicated high-sensitivity pico-resolver provides added robustness against external magnetic fields.

The MLX90381 is housed in a compact DFN-6 package. It requires only three external capacitors to complete the circuit.

“The MLX90381 pico resolver is our most versatile and safe resolver in the smallest size available on the market,” says Dieter Verstreken, Global Marketing Director for Position Sensors at Melexis. “When combined with our LIN family of motor controllers, the result is a practical Sense & Drive solution for position sensing and actuation. This helps our customers address a wide range of challenges, including miniaturization, safety, and programmability.”
