The 0.80 mm pitch system, with a total height of less than 4 mm, features a coupling compression mount and a robust metal enclosure.
The low-profile Z-Ray® cable assembly (ZRDP series) accommodates 34 AWG Eye Speed® low-slant Twinax ribbon cable with 8 or 16 pairs, 100 Ω differential signal routing, and various termination options. With an FR4 core and a microformed BeCu dual compression contact system, the coupling insulator (ZCI series) is available in two sizes to accommodate the number of wire pairs. The rugged metal enclosure (ZCC series) provides a secure coupling between the cable and the insulator, as well as compression of the insulator contacts to the board. Metal screws and solder tabs (through-hole or surface mount) enhance stability on the board.
Currently under development, Z-Ray® is a vertical cable system for +26 Gbps throughput in a high-density, space-saving design. Supporting this technology is Samtec's high-speed cable plant, which provides in-house research and development and manufactures extruded micro-coaxial and twinax cable. The plant's capabilities include 26-38 AWG center conductors, 50 Ω to 100 Ω impedance, and assemblies with +28 Gbps throughput.
