The technology, already proven in larger motors, has been further developed based on concepts created for custom designs and optimized for industrial production in a smaller diameter.
The result is a small, powerful electric motor with speeds up to 50,000 rpm and continuous torques up to 0.57 mNm. Internally, the ECX 6 PRIME M, measuring just under 20 mm, is constructed from premium materials, including the four rotor magnets and the stator's magnetic return. This minimizes losses and gives the brushless motor a very low speed/torque gradient.
A low speed/torque gradient means the motor speed doesn't change as significantly when the load increases or fluctuates. This allows for more stable and dynamic closed-loop control than motors with higher speed/torque gradients. Compared to a 2-pole ECX 6 SPEED, the speed/torque gradient of the new 4-pole version is three times lower.

Other advantages of the ECX 6 PRIME compared to the ECX 6 SPEED include higher torque, a lower mechanical time constant, and a higher overload capacity.
The ECX 6 PRIME has been specifically designed for demanding applications in space-constrained environments where exceptional performance or high control dynamics are required. Examples include hand prostheses, surgical tools, and even implants.

The maxon modular system and its brushless motor variants:
The ECX 6 PRIME M is available in a high-power (HP) version with Hall sensors or switching signals. The switching signal is generated by the integrated MAG encoder. An 80 mm long Flexprint cable is used for the electrical connection. It can be routed away from the motor both axially and radially. The length of the front shaft is configurable, and a flange with a threaded hole pattern can also be added.
The ECX 6 PRIME can be combined with an ENX 6 MAG encoder. This 3-channel incremental encoder can be integrated into the brushless motor without increasing its length. If higher torque is required, the GPX 6 A gearbox from the standard modular system can be combined with the ECX 6 PRIME. For customized versions, the GP 6 S lead screw can be attached.
