"High temperatures can significantly affect the performance of reed relays, and many devices can only operate at temperatures up to 85°C. By designing these devices with stronger magnetic actuation and using specialized encapsulation materials to maintain insulation strength, Pickering can now offer reed relays that operate at elevated temperatures and can be stored at up to 150°C," says Kevin Mallett, Technical Specialist at Pickering Electronics.
Pickering Series 104 reed relays feature internal mu-metal shielding, which effectively counteracts magnetic interference. Electrostatic shielding is also available as an option. These versatile relays come in a variety of configurations, including 1 Form A, 2 Form A, and 1 Form B, and can be fitted with 5, 12, or 24 V coils, with optional internal diode protection.
With four types of dry switches to choose from, these relays are capable of handling 1.5, 2, 3, or 4 kV DC. The 3 kV and 4 kV versions are designed with increased clearance between the switch pins and the coil to accommodate the higher voltage. If the user requires even higher voltage ratings, Pickering offers a variety of construction options or fully customized designs tailored to meet unique requirements. Wet mercury devices are also available for applications requiring non-bounce switching. These are rated for a minimum clearance of 1500 V DC, switching from 500 V DC up to 50 W.
For users who need a reliable reed relay that can perform well in high-temperature environments, the new 104 Series high-temperature, high-voltage reed relays are worth considering. They are suitable for a wide variety of applications, including mixed-signal semiconductor testers, high-end cable testers, motherboard testers, medical electronics, electric vehicles, solar energy, and high-voltage instrumentation.
