Requiring no cable preparation such as stripping, the system allows cables and connectors to be joined up to five times faster than traditional crimping or screw-in connection technologies. Since no special training is needed to make the connections, overall installation costs can be significantly reduced. Furthermore, common tools can be used to insert the cables into the connectors.

TE's RITS connectors have an extremely compact pitch of only 2.0 mm (0.79 in), meaning they take up very little board space. With a maximum UL current rating of 3 A per line and a voltage of 32 V DC, the RITS connector system is suitable for all relevant, low-power I/O applications in harsh and industrial environments.

Features such as the different colored housings to indicate the applicable cable range and their semi-transparency allow for correct cable placement before termination and facilitate quality inspection. The addition of a locking lever that produces an audible click upon engagement also improves the installation and connection process. This allows connectors to be pulled out safely in case of jams in cable trays.

The chisel-shaped contact pierces the cable to ensure a much larger contact area than other systems; the pressure function maintains the applied contact pressure; and the retention mechanism holds the cable with a higher retention force than other IDC connectors. The applicable cable range covers both solid and stranded cables from 0.1 to 0.5 mm² (27 to 20 AWG), commonly used in factory automation industries.

High contact reliability is ensured, even under harsh conditions such as shock and vibration, thanks to the system's two-point contact structure.

TE RITS connectors are available in several formats: plug-in, SMT-PCB mountable, panel mount, junction box and socket connectors.
