The new family offers precision performance usually associated with thin-film resistors, but using a thick-film architecture that optimizes costs and reduces the space occupied on printed circuit boards.
ERJPC resistors feature tolerances up to ±0.1%, a temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) of 25 ppm/K and power ratings up to 0.25 W, depending on the format.
Thick-film resistors with thin-film accuracy
The ERJPC series is available with tolerances of ±0.1% and ±0.5%, allowing its use in circuits requiring precise control of resistive values. Its TCR of only 25 ppm/K helps maintain resistance stability against temperature variations.
According to Panasonic Industry, these features allow them to offer an alternative to certain thin-film solutions, combining precision and stability with the economic advantages of thick-film technology.
Higher power density in 0603 and 0805 formats
One of the main features of the new resistors is their power density, which can be double that of traditional thin-film solutions. The series offers the following power ratings:
Format 0603: 0.2 W.
Format 0805: 0.25 W.
These features allow for the replacement of certain larger components with more compact resistors, facilitating the miniaturization of electronic designs and reducing the space required on circuit boards. Furthermore, ERJPC resistors meet the AEC-Q200 requirements for automotive passive components and RoHS regulations.
Applications in automotive, batteries and industrial automation
ERJPC resistors are geared towards systems that require electrical precision and stability under varying operating conditions.
Its main applications include battery management systems (BMS), electronic control units (ECUs), motor control systems, industrial automation, and consumer electronics. According to Clara Lagomarsini, Product Manager of the Device Solution Business Division at Panasonic Industry, the thick-film technology used in this series provides an alternative to thin-film implementations, with the potential to reduce costs in the long run.
Andrew Weatherill, Vice President of Global Product Supply Chain at Farnell, emphasizes that the combination of advanced materials and optimized structures allows for high levels of precision and power density. With the addition of the Panasonic ERJPC series, Farnell will expand its portfolio of passive components for high-precision applications, offering designers a solution that combines tight tolerances, thermal stability, and PCB space savings.
