WE-SFIA inductors are designed for high-efficiency DC/DC converters in the automotive sector, including single-phase and polyphase converters, as well as buck and boost converters with high saturation currents up to 150 A. Other applications, such as filtering, include battery management systems, motor control, and audio and infotainment systems. The flat wire technology employed provides multiple advantages for the coils: it offers greater mechanical robustness, allows for tighter and more uniform winding, and optimizes heat dissipation.
Flat wire windings also offer a larger cross-sectional area, which reduces resistance. This translates into a higher maximum permissible current, which is associated with significant advantages when handling transient current spikes. Furthermore, AC losses, such as the skin effect, are considerably lower in high-frequency applications than in comparable round wire options.
Compact and efficient design
Thanks to its optimized core material, Würth Elektronik achieves improved magnetic saturation performance with the WE-SFIA series compared to equivalent products on the market. The WE-SFIA product series is characterized by its compact size, high-temperature performance, and energy efficiency. This advancement opens up new design possibilities for engineers. The flat-wire inductors are available in inductances from 0.33 µH to 4.7 µH. Other inductance values are available upon request.
