Power Integrations today announced its 600V, 12A Qspeed diode, which offers the industry's lowest reverse recovery charge (Qrr) for a silicon diode. With a Qrr of just 14 nC at 25°C, it improves the efficiency of the PFC stage in onboard chargers and significantly reduces the operating temperature of PFC MOSFETs. The AEC-Q101-rated QH12TZ600Q delivers the same low-loss switching performance as a silicon carbide (SiC) device without the drawbacks of switching to a more expensive technology.

Vehicles play a crucial role in the modern economy. Over the past few decades, the electric vehicle market has experienced a surge in growth, coinciding with the rising environmental costs of traditional vehicles. Electric cars and trucks have been joined by electric-powered trains and even airplanes. Connectivity in these high-power systems presents a number of challenges, further compounded by the harsh environments in which these vehicles operate.

Although miniaturization has been a part of electronics for over 50 years, reflecting advances in semiconductor and passive component manufacturing technologies, there are limits to the minimum dimensions of some components. The capacitor is an excellent example of a component whose small size is not always desirable, since meeting electrical characteristics and safety requirements means that a component small enough to be soldered directly to a printed circuit board may not be optimal.

Murata introduces the LQW21FT_0H series of inductors. These are the world's smallest wideband impedance inductors for Power over Coax (PoC) circuitry in SerDes-based vehicle interfaces. The LQW21FT_0H series complies with AEC-Q200 and offers a combination of wideband impedance and high current performance. Thanks to state-of-the-art technologies for both the ceramic material and coil structure, Murata can supply these components in a space-saving format that other manufacturers simply cannot match. They are housed in a compact 0.805-inch enclosure, measuring 2mm x 1.2mm x 1.6mm.
Murata's LQW21FT_0H series inductors are extremely well-suited for proof-of-concept (PoC) applications. In addition to their high broadband impedance levels, they exhibit superior saturation properties. Inductance values from 0.47 µH to 2 µH are available, with corresponding current ratings of 1 A and 0.45 A. The high operating temperatures these inductors can withstand (up to 125 °C) make them attractive for automotive applications.
“To accelerate the transition to safe, autonomous driving, the number of cameras integrated into vehicle models continues to rise,” says Uwe Mirschberger, Product Manager EMI – Filters, Inductors, at Murata Europe. “The popularity of Point-of-Concept (PoC) for in-vehicle applications is, as a result, constantly increasing and allows for significant reductions in wiring weight by transmitting image data and electrical power over a single coaxial cable. Keeping power and data signals separate is, of course, vital for PoC implementations, and the wide frequency characteristics of the LQW21FT_0H help reduce the number of inductors required for this purpose. The LQW21FT_0H series has the potential to make a real difference in PoC implementations, enabling a considerable reduction in the number of inductors needed. Consequently, engineers can streamline their designs, saving space and also reducing overall DC resistance.”.
