Capacitive touch sensors offer advantages thanks to their durability and ease of use, but they require careful design and proper configuration to ensure they function correctly in the application. In contrast, mechanical switches are very simple to design and assemble. The new W7ED touch sensor combines the simplicity of a mechanical switch with the enhanced performance and flexibility of touch control.
The Omron W7ED touch sensor, suitable for any application using a mechanical switch, attaches to the touch electrode with a screw. It detects changes in capacitance due to the presence of a finger without requiring the design or integration of a control circuit board or sensitivity adjustments. It contains no moving parts that can wear out.
Gabriele Fulco, Product Marketing Manager for Sensors in Europe at Omron, commented: “With the W7ED, we offer control panel designers the best of both worlds. They can eliminate the moving parts and contact wear associated with mechanical switches without going through the laborious process of designing and configuring a touch sensor. It is an ideal solution for a wide range of applications, and particularly useful in diverse environments, from domestic kitchens to industrial or R&D applications, including elevators where the control panel is exposed to liquids and other contaminants.”
The Omron W7ED operates on 5-15V DC. The maximum output current is 10 mA.
