Measuring just 3 x 3 x 0.93 mm, the BME680 minimizes average power consumption by combining an active and efficient mode—called forced mode—with a low-power sleep mode that uses only 0.15 µA. In forced mode, the sensor cycles through temperature, pressure, humidity, and gas measurements before automatically returning to sleep mode.

The sensor's fast response time reduces cycle time in forced mode, measurements can be individually turned on or off to save energy, and it has the capacity to store up to 10 temperature settings and internal gas sensor heater duration settings to optimize energy consumption.

Providing extremely accurate linear responses, the BME680 can be used in air quality measurement applications or weather stations, environmental sensing in wearable devices or building automation, personal navigation devices, fitness trackers, and advanced industrial monitors. The 8-pin LGA package with a metal backplate ensures high stability and interference immunity, enabling its use in harsh industrial or outdoor environments.

RS also offers the BME680 selector board, which comes with a ready-to-use BME680 sensor and provides access to all pins, simplifying development and testing. By sharing the standard-sized Bosch selector board, it can be used directly in customer projects along with the application board and Bosch Sensortec configuration software to configure sensor parameters and control readings.

Users of the BME680 can also take advantage of the extensive developer resources, including Bosch's suite of environmental software, to manage sensor data and calculate results such as air quality from different sensor readings.
