The MLX90392, which requires no dedicated LDO or regulator, simplifies design, reduces material costs, and saves PCB space. Measuring only 2 mm x 2.5 mm x 0.4 mm, the sensor features an ultra-thin, lead-free, 8-pin package to help designers address space-constrained applications. Furthermore, a 1.5 µA shutdown mode helps conserve power and thus maximize runtime in battery-powered applications.
With an integrated thermal sensor and I2C communication protocol, the MLX90392 places 16-bit position measurements on the X, Y, and Z axes, as well as temperature, on the I2C bus operating at up to 1 MHz. Two variants are available, offering a choice of full-scale ranges of ±50 mT and ±5 mT, leveraging Melexis' patented Triaxis® Hall technology to deliver low noise and best-in-class accuracy.
The ±50 mT range is ideal for position measurement in HMI applications, door closure detection in household appliances and access control systems, tamper protection for smart meters, and contactless joysticks, saving the energy dissipated by traditional potentiometer-based position detection. For position detection requiring a small magnetic range and for precise position measurement where noise is a critical design parameter, the ±5 mT variant offers a sensitivity of 0.15 µT/LSB and typical RMS noise as low as 0.3 µT.
Both devices support single measurement and continuous measurement modes.
