This relay driver circuit board for automotive body electronics utilizes a SmartMCD integrated circuit that incorporates an embedded MCU with low-side and high-side drivers for controlling brushed DC motors and loads.
The SmartMCD™ TB9M001FTG board offers an advanced solution for evaluating and controlling high-current brushed DC motors and automotive loads. At its core is the Toshiba Semiconductor TB9M001FTG automotive-grade relay driver IC, with integrated low-side and high-side driver outputs and relay control functionality, enabling direct control of common actuators, motors, and power loads in automotive body electronics.

For prototyping, the board incorporates an integrated debug unit based on Toshiba's TMPM067FW, enabling immediate operation, testing, and debugging of the target device right out of the box.
The board features an ARM Cortex-M0 core with a maximum frequency of 40 MHz and onboard memory including 192 KB of Code Flash, 16 KB of Data Flash, 16 KB of SRAM, and 12 KB of ROM. It also includes USB Type-C connectors, LEDs, pushbuttons, switches, headers, jumpers, and connectors for additional configurations.

It supports the control of two channels of high-current brushed DC motors using integrated solid-state relays with a capacity of up to 20 A per channel. Connectivity options include USB-to-UART communication, LIN interface support, configurable switches, and terminals for Hall effect sensor monitoring.
The SmartMCD IC is AEC-Q100 (Grade 1) certified and operates within a temperature range of -40 °C to +90 °C.

Nebojsa Matic, CEO of MIKROE, comments:
“This new motor control board is ideal for managing high-current automotive loads in systems requiring power distribution and load management, such as controlling brushed DC motors and sequencing relays. It provides a platform for prototyping automotive body electronics systems, including electric sunroofs, power windows, and adjustable seats.”
