Falk Senger, Managing Director of Messe München, is looking ahead to next autumn with confidence thanks to the adapted concept: “We are delighted that the electronics trade fair can take place. While we are reducing the overall exhibition area, this format offers exhibitors the opportunity to present themselves to the global market both in person and digitally. At the same time, visitors can attend the electronics show as usual in Munich or participate virtually from around the world.”.
Additional offerings include digital trade fair booths and conference livestreams. This allows customers to stay informed about trends in the automotive, embedded, IIoT, 5G, medical electronics, and smart energy sectors, even if they are unable to attend the Munich trade fair in person. As in 2018, SEMICON Europe will complement the electronics trade fair program with solutions from the semiconductor manufacturing sector.
Digitally Expanded Electronic Format: Industry Approval.
Exhibitors welcome the expansion of the trade fair concept to include digital offerings. Kurt Sievers, CEO of NXP Semiconductors and Chairman of the Electronica Advisory Board, emphasizes: “The electronica trade fair is indispensable as a meeting place for the industry. It is important for us as exhibitors to present our innovations and maintain an intensive dialogue with our customers, especially this year. In view of the current situation, the decision to digitize parts of the trade fair offerings and thus meet the special circumstances in an innovative way is correct and important.”
Christoph Stoppok, Head of Components, Mobility and Systems at the German Association of Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers (ZVEI), explains how significant the impact of COVID-19 has been on the electronica industry: “The coronavirus pandemic has led to a decrease in revenue for a number of companies. This makes it even more important for electronica to provide the industry with a platform this year, as usual, to generate renewed business momentum.”
A new membership survey conducted by the trade association shows that the coronavirus pandemic is having a tangible impact on companies' bottom line. Revenues are expected to decline by an average of 14 percent.
Safety and hygiene concept for a safe visit to electronics.
Due to the current situation, special measures will be taken based on current rules for everyday life to ensure the protection and safety of everyone involved, even during the coronavirus crisis. "Together with the Bavarian State Government, we have developed a very compelling protection and hygiene concept that allows trade fairs to be held successfully even in these times and gives the industry the opportunity to meet face-to-face again," confirms Falk Senger.
