Melexis has developed a free online simulation application for its Triaxis® range of magnetic sensors, covering both linear and rotary applications. This application simulates sensor operation in the customer's application with a high level of accuracy, including immunity to stray fields. A simulation with this level of accuracy can significantly improve and accelerate the sensor module design cycle.

“Simulation software has become an incredibly powerful and useful resource for engineering teams,” commented Jerome Degois, Regional Marketing Director at Melexis. “Melexis has developed this online simulator to provide customers with fast and accurate results as early as possible in the design phase of a project. It offers greater accuracy than other simulators, as it was specifically developed to simulate how the Triaxis® 2D/3D magnetic sensor will react when used with a wide variety of magnets.”

Simulating multipolar magnets is not easy, as it involves complex physics. Therefore, manufacturers don't usually offer simulators with this level of functionality for free. Melexis has decided to make its simulation tool free to use and include all possible simulation capabilities. This makes it much more comprehensive than competing tools, as it provides results that more closely approximate how a real sensor would function.

The online simulation tool covers mechanical and magnetic design for both linear and rotary operating modes, with or without stray field immunity. No other free simulation tool can match these features. The tool also supports real-time design, providing results as soon as any parameter is modified. Building on the Streamlit framework and the Python library of analytical formulas for simple magnetic shapes (magpylib), Melexis has extended this foundation to create a catalog of magnets that customers can use to develop and simulate their own applications.

The simulation tool will be available and free to use from July 1, 2021.
