Next, we will look at two HVDC applications: Solar Tracker and Class 4 Power Systems (FMPS: Fault Managed Power System).
Solar Tracker:
The solar power plant generates megawatts of power using the voltage of large-scale solar panels (1000-1500V DC). To maximize the power generated, the high voltage between 1000-1500V DC is used as the primary source to rotate the panels and track the sun's rays.
MEAN WELL's RSDH-150 and RSDH-300 HVDC DC/DC converters, distributed in Spain and Portugal by Electrónica OLFER, are a perfect solution for solar trackers. They reduce the high voltage of 1000-1500V DC to power a motor, position the solar panels, and charge a battery that can reset the solar panels' position after sunset.
Furthermore, the RSDH-150/300 converters are designed in a semi-encapsulated format and can operate at temperatures as low as -40°C. These two features make them suitable for outdoor installation.

Class 4 Power System (FMPS)
Fault-managed power systems transmit power from a power transmitter, through cables, to a receiver. These systems are characterized by monitoring the circuit for faults and controlling the transmitted power to ensure that the energy and power delivered in the event of a fault are limited.
Figure 2 shows an FMPS system along with the devices powered by the receiver.

The advantages of a Class 4 power system over mains (AC) power include lower installation costs, as it doesn't require conduit for wiring, remote monitoring/control, and expandability.
To reduce voltage and power loss over long distances, the Class 4 power system uses 350-360VDC HVDC at the transmitter input and receiver output.
MEAN WELL's HVDC input and output power supplies play a crucial role in Class 4 systems. For example, the NCP-3200-380 rack-mount solution with a 260-400VDC output is used to power Class 4 transmitters. The DDRH-240 and RSDH-300 series, with their high input voltage (250-1500VDC), can reduce the output of the Class 4 receiver to power low-voltage devices such as PoE.
In summary, MEAN WELL's HVDC power supplies provide immediate solutions for both Class 4 power system applications and solar trackers: the RSDH/DDRH series reduces high voltage to power low-voltage devices, and the NCP series converts AC to high-voltage DC to power transmitters. All these devices are available in the extensive OLFER Electronics catalog and can be viewed on our website .The
