Google's Android is an open-source operating system for mobile devices and is currently a prime target for software and hardware developers due to its flexibility, functionality, and design possibilities. Android app development is made easier by the products listed below, providing a faster time-to-market advantage over alternative solutions.

Microchip Technology has introduced the DM240415 PIC24F Accessory Development Starter Kit, which focuses on a 16-bit PIC24 development board and contains an integrated PICkit™3 circuit debugger and royalty-free, license-free software library (available by download) that enables quick and easy development of Android hardware accessories based on Microchip's portfolio of 16-bit and 32-bit PIC® microcontrollers.

Similarly, the Arduino Mega Android Development Kit (ADK) is based on the Atmega2560 board (which contains the Atmel Atmega328 microcontroller). It features a USB interface for connecting to Android-based devices, as well as 54 digital I/O pins, 16 analog inputs, and 4 UARTs. Together with the ADK download package available on Google, the Arduino Mega ADK forms an easy-to-use, open-source platform for Open Accessory development.
