The SensorShield-EVK-001 evaluation kit consists of an open-source expansion board (shield) with multiple sensors developed by the ROHM Group. Simply connect the sensor shield to an existing open-source microcontroller-based platform such as an Arduino Uno and add software to measure acceleration, temperature, and other physical quantities and conditions. The kit makes it easy to immediately verify sensor functionality and simplifies the design of sensor devices, significantly reducing the development burden and promoting market entry into the Internet of Things (IoT).
Over the past few years, with the proliferation of IoT in infrastructure, agriculture, automotive, and other sectors, companies have emerged offering services, applications, and devices to meet the needs of the IoT market. However, creating products for the growing IoT ecosystem requires significant development effort, as well as hardware and software expertise. Furthermore, the development and assembly environment will inherently differ for each IoT device, complicating the evaluation process.
In response, the ROHM Group began offering the SensorShield-EVK-001 evaluation kit, which facilitates initial development, evaluation, and prototyping for IoT and other markets.

Terminology
• Arduino – a well-known open-source platform consisting of a development environment and a board equipped with input/output ports and a microcontroller. The Arduino Uno is the most well-known board in the Arduino family.
• mbed – a microcontroller board for prototyping and a development environment provided by ARM.
• Open source platform (hardware/software)
A model that promotes universal (public) access to program source code, product listings, detailed specifications, and other information that allows for its free and widespread copying, modification, and distribution.
