With the new RZ/A1 software package, the integrated design environment provides a complete starting point for RZ/A1-based HMI design and camera graphical user interface, reducing the complexity and resources required to develop these applications. The RZ/A1 software package incorporates familiar, user-friendly design features from the microcontroller (MCU) design environment to ease the transition for designers migrating to a richer and more complex MPU design environment.

The growing popularity of HMI-based systems and other markets where HMI and continuous streaming converge is driving the need for high-end MPU implementations that can handle the demands of these rich and highly sophisticated systems.

Key Features of the RZ/A1 Design Environment:
Renesas' high-performance RZ/A1 MPUs combine the ease of use of Renesas MCUs with up to 10 MB of on-chip SRAM, an integrated memory management unit, and a powerful Cortex®-A9 core. This combination allows engineers to keep the application design process simple and fast while leveraging the high-speed MPU's computational and HMI capabilities.

Pre-integrated with the RZ/A1 MPUs, the new design environment combines everything needed to immediately begin HMI design work. The RZ/A1 software suite is a fully integrated software package that includes a real-time operating system, drivers, middleware, and sample applications for camera GUI display implementation, along with software components such as:

Software Development Kit (SDK) providing consistent support for camera input, LCD output, and image adjustment.
The “QE for Display” and “QE for Camera” tools allow camera/display settings to be configured graphically with real-time feedback.
Seamless integration with the TES Guiliani GUI framework enables designers to create GUIs for embedded systems in minutes.

Software engineers working with streaming applications, such as IP-based radio and video broadcasts, as well as video surveillance and fingerprint/video-based access control, can use the RZ/A1 software package in conjunction with the Renesas RZ development kit to further streamline development. This ready-to-use evaluation and development platform allows engineers to begin their custom code development almost immediately after installing the project and opening the toolset.

Eliminating typical software integration tasks allows engineers to focus their time and resources on developing compelling HMI-based applications.

In addition to fast software startup, the RZ/A1 MPUs and RZ/A1 software suite offer an optimized PCB design with quad planar packaging (QFP) and a simple clock and power design, as well as a familiar debugging and development experience for designers migrating from MCU to MPU environments. XIP (Execute-in-Place) Linux with QSPI flash memory allows the RZ/A1 Series to add MCU-like boot times to MPU-level performance.

Hardware integration allows customers to accelerate their custom designs quickly, minimize implementation errors and other design risks, eliminate the need for external DRAM, deliver MCU-like boot response times, and reduce overall bill of materials costs.

The RZ/A1 software package is compatible with IAR System® IAR Embedded Workbench®, as well as Renesas' Eclipse-based e² studio development environment.
