The MPLAB ICD 5 integrated debugger/programmer offers advanced connectivity and diverse power options to developers of designs based on PIC®, AVR®, and SAM devices, as well as PIC® digital signal controllers (DSCs). By reducing the need for power cables, this development tool can be used in space-constrained environments. Powered via a USB Type-C® connection to a PC or via Ethernet (PoE+), the MPLAB ICD 5 integrated programming and debugging tool is fast, flexible, and convenient. PoE+ allows the device to be powered using the same cables used for data communication, eliminating the need for separate power cables. In addition to the flexibility offered by PoE+, the Ethernet connection enables remote development and isolation from environmental conditions.
Remote debugging and programming via Ethernet, power monitoring to optimize design power, and integration with continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) systems provide feature-rich development supported by the hardware's capabilities and connectivity. Users can shorten development time thanks to Arm®'s Single Wire Output (SWO) trace and various programming and debugging interfaces.
“The MPLAB ICD 5 integrated debugger/programmer expands Microchip’s mid-range debugger portfolio to add new capabilities and high-level features that are often reserved for more expensive products,” said Rodger Richey, Director of Microchip’s Development Systems business unit.
"State-of-the-art hardware and wireless connectivity options make this tool extremely versatile and easy to use when designing diverse applications.".
The MPLAB PICkit 5 integrated debugger/programmer is a more flexible version of its predecessor and can be used either connected to a computer with the MPLAB X integrated development environment (IDE) or in the field. This fast and portable tool, which is compatible with all Microchip architectures, offers remote programming via Microchip's updated Programmer-to-Go (PTG) smartphone app. It uses a Bluetooth® Low Energy wireless radio, allowing developers to connect to the device from their smartphone via the PTG app. The PICkit 5 allows users to select multiple program images from the SD card using the app, enabling them to program different images in the field. Previously, available tools could only program the image in MPLAB X IDE or MPLAB IPE before the user was in the field.
“The MPLAB PICkit 5 integrated debugger/programmer, which retains the speed and small size of its predecessors, enhances the portability of our product offering,” said Richey. “The ability to select multiple programs in the field and use our custom app adds great versatility to programming.”
Both tools support the MPLAB X Integrated Development Environment and the MPLAB Integrated Programming Environment, Microchip's highly configurable software program and user interface. Along with these products, the updated version 6.10 of MPLAB X IDE will be supplied, simplifying the design process for customers who need to switch between Microchip devices to meet the requirements of various applications.
