The ADP2384/86 regulators integrate power MOSFETs with very low on-resistance – a 44 mΩ power MOSFET and an 11.6 mΩ synchronous rectifier MOSFET – offering a truly efficient solution in a compact 168 mm² footprint. These devices provide very high conversion efficiency, exceeding 95%, with an efficiency profile optimized for low duty cycle operation. They operate over a wide input voltage range of 4.5 V to 20 V and a very narrow output voltage range of 0.6 V to 18 V with 1% voltage accuracy. Precise current limit protection allows the use of smaller external inductors, helping to minimize board space. External compensation and smooth tuning of the startup function provide design flexibility. The ADP2384/86 regulators deliver accurate input and good output power, enabling a simple and safe startup sequence.
The ADP2384/86 uses a peak current mode and constant-frequency pulse-width modulation (PWM) control, offering excellent stability and transient response to minimize output voltage ripple. The regulators' switching frequency can be synchronized to an external clock to eliminate interference between regulators. The devices operate in a junction temperature range of -40°C to +125°C, are available in compact 4 mm x 4 mm, 24-pin LFCSP packages, and are pin-compatible.
These switching regulators are suitable for high-performance applications requiring high efficiency and design flexibility, such as communications infrastructure, networks and servers, industrial and instrumentation sectors, health and medicine, power conversion and DC-to-DC point charging applications.
Other notable features include: undervoltage lockout (UVLO), overvoltage protection (OVP), overcurrent protection (OCP) and short circuit protection (SCP) and thermal shutdown (TSD).
