Würth Elektronik has released the first industry-ready Single Pair Ethernet (SPE) circuit that meets IEEE-802.3 signal requirements and the 1.5 kV safety isolation requirement of IEC 62368-1. The solution, featuring this filter, is compact and ensures signal stability over cable lengths of up to 40 m with 100BASE-T1 or up to 1,000 m with 10BASE-T1. Instead of using capacitors, galvanic isolation is achieved via a signal transmitter. The WE STST transmitter series is optimized for single-pair Ethernet signal bandwidth and occupies minimal space on the printed circuit board, measuring only 4.5 x 3.2 mm. In addition to the WE-STST transmitter, a common-mode choke, the WE-CNSW, is used as a current-compensated data line filter, improving EMC performance, even at frequencies from 1 MHz without negatively affecting the useful signal, and a TVS diode (WE-TVS) provides protection against electrostatic discharges according to IEC 61000-4-2 up to 8 kV.
