Melexis' new MLX80050, supplied in a compact SOIC8 package, addresses this growing need. It is the first member of the company's next-generation IC line, enabling simple and effective development of LIN slaves. The IC combines a physical layer LIN transceiver (compliant with LIN 2.xy SAEJ2602) and a 5V voltage regulator with a RESET output for the system microcontroller. Its pins are compatible with existing LIN devices such as the ATA6620/25/31 and TJA1028.

Manufactured using 0.35-micron HV-CMOS process technology
, this transceiver is optimized for minimal current consumption (only 15µA in standby mode). Integrated standby management ensures that it can be woken up from the LIN bus itself or directly from a connected microcontroller or other external source. By generating a RESET output signal, the microcontroller can minimize the external circuitry required.

The MLX80050 also meets the stringent electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements of single-wire bus systems, as well as the "Hardware Requirements for LIN, CAN, and Flexray Interfaces in Automotive Applications" defined by German car manufacturers. For self-protection, the IC incorporates integrated charging current limiting and over-temperature shutdown, as well as 40V overcharge protection. Furthermore, it achieves electrostatic discharge (ESD) resistance exceeding 20kV with direct discharge and 15kV with indirect discharge (according to IEC 61000-4-2).

The MLX80050 is AECQ100 and RoHS compliant.
