CypressampliThey deliver unparalleled performance in the presence of all noise sources—the biggest challenge facing touchscreen designs—and support both cell and SLIM™ monolayer architectures to meet system requirements in terms of price and drive massive sales in emerging markets. Improvements to the analog input stage in this family have minimized its size and doubled the charger noise immunity compared to previous Gen4 models, which have gained acceptance among industry leaders worldwide for their outstanding performance in noisy environments. More information about the new Gen4X controller family is available online at touch.cypress.com.

The Gen4X provides the world's highest charger noise immunity: up to 15V peak-to-peak (Vpp) between 1 and 500 kHz, with a 0.5 mm cover lens and a 22 mm finger width. The Gen4X achieves unprecedented signal-to-noise ratios thanks to Cypress's unique ability to provide an integrated 10V Tx and its proprietary Tx-Boost™ multi-phase Tx solution.

The Gen4X also offers high-performance multi-touch functionality with advanced customizable features such as Cypress's best-in-class water resistance. The entire Gen4 family functions flawlessly even with moisture on the touchscreen and/or wet fingers. These features are made possible by Cypress's patent-pending ability to provide self-capacitance and mutual-capacitance sensing on the same chip.

Faster, lower-power system solutions:
The Gen4X uses the same 32-bit ARM® Cortex™ core as the Gen4 family to deliver the best combination of speed and low power consumption. This family easily achieves a 150Hz refresh rate and a deep sleep mode that consumes only 4.5uW and is reactivated by comparing addresses on the COM port.

Gen4X devices offer up to 36 capacitive I/O points to provide ideal sensor density for displays up to 5 inches, support CapSense® touch-sensing buttons, and control both cell structure and SLIM monolayer sensors. Gen4X is the first family of touchscreen controllers to bring superphone capabilities to emerging markets.

Leadership in Touch Technology:
Cypress's touch sensing portfolio is the broadest and most widely adopted on the market, encompassing TrueTouch®, CapSense®, and TrackPad solutions. The company's unparalleled intellectual property (IP) portfolio includes true single-layer sensor solutions that dramatically reduce touchscreen costs, as well as self-capacity and mutual-capacity on-chip sensing that delivers advanced features such as water resistance, proximity sensing, 1 mm stylus support, and near-point detection.

Availability:
Samples of the Gen4X controllers are now available to early adopters. Cypress plans to ship mass production to early adopters during the first quarter of 2013. The family will be available in 44-pin, 5 mm x 5 mm QFN packages with 28 sensing I/O, a 44-pin, 5 mm x 5 mm QFN package with 33 sensing I/O, and a 48-pin, 6 mm x 6 mm QFN package with 36 sensing I/O.
